RUM

Watching the process (and looking at some of the distilleries) leads one to think that Rum is a fairly basic spirit. This is not the case however. Rum has over 500 different possible flavour components; that's several hundred more than most other spirits. Perhaps the fact that there is even a Ministry of Rum in the Caribbean gives some insight into the importance of Rum.

TEQUILA

Tequila is made from the large pineapple-like root or centre of the Agave plant (called the Pina) which is harvested after approximately 8-12 years. When harvested, the Pina can weigh up to 50-100 kilograms! It may look like a pineapple but the Agave Pina is a whole lot bigger!
